Matthew Elliot - Clinical Myotherapist and Exercise Scientist

What led me to becoming a Clinical Myotherapist?

After completing my Exercise Science studies I found my true passion was in the areas of injury prevention and rehabilitation. This arose out of a strong curiosity for understanding how the body worked but also because my studies thus far seemed incomplete. Furthering my studies with a degree in Clinical Myotherapy helped me to bridge that gap. Furthermore, joining the team at the Geelong Physical Therapy Centre in 2019 has allowed me to bring together everything that I had learned. Furthermore, it has allowed me to do it in a way that I believe is the best approach to treating pain and injury.

It brings me endless joy to work with people from all walks of life and to help them reach the goals that they endeavour to achieve. I take great pride in applying a holistic and evidence based approach to each and every consultation; striving to give every patient the tools and resources to return to their optimal level of health and wellbeing.

A little bit about me:

I was an active kid growing up and have continued to enjoy playing cricket and golf as an adult. Running has become an extra source of joy for me over the past few years and has allowed me to connect with the community in many ways. This year, to help raise funds and awareness for Movember, I set myself a big challenge; to run 6km every day and to do a 60km run at the end of the month. Running 240km and raising funds for a cause close to my heart was an incredible experience.

Like everyone who plays golf, I am always striving for a better handicap. This year I have made a lot of progress and I really enjoy working with people who also want to work towards a goal, regardless of what that goal may be. My passion for exercise and sports led me to complete a Degree in Exercise Science and Human Movement at Victoria University.

How can I help you get the best results?

At the Geelong Physical Therapy Centre we take an approach that incorporates the best evidence and the best assessment strategies. We take these strategies and we apply them specifically to you and your pain. By finding what is unique and meaningful about your complaint we help you get pain free and back to doing the things you love as quickly and as safely as possible!
